Dr Abhas Mehrotra, MD (AIIMS) FICO (Germany)
The chief Surgeon at The Eye Clinic, Dr Abhas Mehrotra, is extensively trained at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi. He is Also a Fellow of the International Council of Ophthalmology (FICO), and trained at Universtat Klinikum, Hamburg, Germany, with Prof G Richard, a pioneer surgeon and the General Secretary, European Retina Society. Before practising at The Eye Clinic, Dehradun, Dr Mehrotra was Senior Resident at the prestigious Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi. He has the expertise to deal with varied eye related investigations, treatment and surgery. His areas of special interest include management of vitreo-retinal conditions, especially diabetes and hypertension related eye disease.

Academic Credentials: Dr Abhas Mehrotra is an active life member of International Council of Ophthalmology, All India Ophthalmological Society, Delhi Ophthalmological Society, Uttarakahand Ophthalmological Society 

Dr Mehrotra is Trustee, Nature Science Initiative (NSI) Dehradun, Uttarakhand. NSI is a not-for-profit organization based in Dehradun, formed by wildlife scientists aiming to conduct research on wildlife in Uttarakhand.

The Eye Clinic is owned by and under the private proprietorship of Dr Abhas Mehrotra.

Research:
Multiple research publications in journals, both in India and abroad, inclduing the peer acclaimed research publication on Optic Neuritis and Retinal diseases. Dr Abhas has presented research papers at international platforms, including USA (North American Neuro ophthalmological Society, Florida), Sweden (Eusropean Society for Cataract & Refractive surgery, Stocklohm), Singapore (ARVO, Singapore), London UK, and German Ophthalmic Society Hamburg. He has alo been a speaker, Convener of conferences and moderator at presentations at many instances in India. He and his team are continuously involved in research activities in association with other organizations, and are working towards developing better modes of management for retinal diseases.

Training:

  • Member of team for Government of India sponsored surgical camp for ‘Training of trainers’ at Meghalaya, North East India March 2006.
  • Member surgical camp for skill transfer at Gandhi Shatabdi Eye Hospital, Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) Dehradun Uttananchal, India.December 2006.
  • Was part of the surgical team for Phase 2 Retinal Chip Implant at UKE, Hamburg, Germany under the pioneer, Professor G.Richard
  • Participated in “Reach In” program for cataract eradication, community ophthalmology department, RAPCOS. June-December 2003.
  • Senior resident In-charge of Cataract Eradication programme-‘Motiabind Mukti Abhiyan’ by the Government of India September-October 2006
  • Routine teaching of interns, medical students and post graduate students- instruction classes, power point presentations, clinical rounds and hands-on surgical tarining. January 2001 to June 2007.

Research experience and publications

  • Research Officer: Multi-centric, randomized, double-masked controlled study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Intra-vitreal Flucinolone acetonide (0.59 or 2.1 mg) implant in patients with non-infectious uveitis affecting the posterior segment of eye.
